Unspoken Smiles Goodwill Ambassador Mariluz Bermúdez named United Nations NGO Representative.

Shining a spotlight on the oral health needs of the Costa Rican children.

February 22, 2023

Continuing in her drive to give back whenever and wherever possible, Costa Rican television actress and model, known for her roles in the telenovelas Mariluz Bermúdez recently announced she is now officially appointed as the first celebrity woman and ambassador for Unspoken Smiles, a testament to her commitment to social causes and her passion for improving oral health care and overall well-being for children and families in underserved communities in the Americas.

The burden of #OralDisease is at an alarming all-time high and requires urgent action.

Responding to the growing demand for effective global oral health strategies, Unspoken Smiles– a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the oral health and self-esteem of underprivileged children and young adults is working to solve this critical global issue. With a mission to build happy smiles in communities where young people are least likely to receive the dental care they need, Unspoken Smiles is proud to introduce Mariluz Bermúdez, a well-known Costa Rican television actress and model, as their first celebrity woman ambassador dedicated to raising awareness and promote the importance of oral health in Latin America and the

Caribbean regions..

Unspoken Smiles is a global movement that connects like-minded people worldwide to provide care and education to inspire more young people to smile. Mariluz Bermúdez has always been a woman who dedicates her time and energy to helping others. In this new commitment, Mariluz Bermúdez is honored to be the face of Unspoken Smiles to spread awareness about the serious issue of poor oral health for children in her native country.

“We are delighted to welcome Mariluz Bermúdez as our new ambassador and advocate for Unspoken Smiles. Her passion for children and the mission of Unspoken Smiles, to put a smile on every child in need, makes her a perfect fit for the entire LATAM region and

Unspoken Smiles representative to the United Nations. She brings infectious energy and passion to our mission, and we are confident her support will help us reach even more young people in need. We are very excited about the advocacy work she will do on our behalf,

spreading the word about the importance of oral health and dental hygiene that many families around the Americas often neglect.”-said Jean Paul Laurent, the founder and CEO of Unspoken Smiles.

As a Goodwill Ambassador & Advocate for Latin America and the Caribbean Region, Bermúdez will work closely with Unspoken Smiles’ team to develop and implement programs that promote oral health education, prevention, and treatment in Costa Rica.

When asked about the cause of joining Unspoken Smiles, Mariluz Bermúdez said, “Everyone deserves access to quality dental care, regardless of their socio-economic status. I believe that together, we can make a significant impact and improve the lives of countless children and families and get them healthy smiles and a healthier life. Through my work with Unspoken Smiles, I hope to inspire young women and children to take control of their oral health and to help break down the barriers that prevent access to affordable dental care.”

The appointment of Mariluz is timely because starting next month Unspoken Smiles is planning to open the world’s first fully preventative community dental clinic in San Jose, Costa Rica. As a result, 365,799 people currently living in San Jose, which is roughly a third of Costa Rica’s total population, will now be able to get universal access to preventative dental care and avoid painful and costly procedures which can have tremendous impact on their overall health.
