Raghu Gudiveti –Filmmaker Profile

“Quiet on the set, please. Action.” After the director says these famous words to the film crew and actors, then the camera rolls and the filming commences. What happens after that is the film, if it was indeed shot on film, goes to a processing house to be developed and then the exposed film goes to the editor so he or she can begin the job of putting all the pieces together to make a coherent and understandable story out of it. If the movie was shot digitally then the processing house is an unnecessary step in the order of getting the visuals to the editor. The content of the digital hard drive with the shots in it is transferred to the editor.

We could have asked Raghu Gudiveti about all this because he is a veteran editor with tons of projects under his belt. He has only been in the states around five years and as soon as he graduated from the legendary New York Film School in Los Angeles, he went to work almost the very next day as an editor. He has been busy ever since. He has edited everything from TV features and commercials to music videos and reality shows. He has learned his craft through discipline and hard work and also by working with top editors who have generously given him tips on what to do and what not to do when editing particular types of shows and movies.

He has proven himself to be a quick learner and someone who has a work ethic that can compete with the best of the best. In 2018, not long after he came to the United States, he edited and directed a short film called Alive. The movie is about a teenager who is unable to continue the hike his friends brought him on and he decides to give up. Then one of the friends does something unbelievable and they both reach the top and finish the hike together. This film won a Best Short at the Los Angeles Cinema Awards in 2018, and became an official selection at other film festivals. Raghu is currently working as an editor on a couple of commercials and a mini web television series. Apart from those projects, he is working on several music videos as an online editor and as an editor.
