Meet The Sunmills: Alt-Rock’s Most Emotionally Unstable Success Story

If you’ve ever wondered what it would sound like if Hendrix, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and your emotionally unavailable ex started a band together, look no further, The Sunmills are here, and they brought their baggage.

Hailing from Highland, Utah, The Sunmills are a trio on a mission to bring back the raw, gut-punching energy of ’90s alternative rock while somehow turning emotional chaos into a brand. And honestly? It’s working. Loud, sarcastic, and just the right amount of unhinged, their music feels like an accidental therapy session with guitars, except no one’s getting better and nobody’s taking notes.

Their upcoming debut album, “The Art of Burning Bridges,” is dropping May 9, and it’s shaping up to be a beautifully disorganized ode to falling apart in style. It’s the kind of record that’ll make you laugh, cry, text someone you shouldn’t, and maybe buy a lighter just for the aesthetic. Think big riffs, bigger feelings, and enough groove to distract you from your latest emotional mistake.

In the meantime, they’ve been steadily releasing singles like “Not Going Home,” “Rock and Roll,” and “Take Me Away,” each one dripping with that signature Sunmills blend of sonic punch and lyrical side-eye. Are they love songs? Breakup songs? Cries for help? Honestly, it’s probably all three. But what they are is catchy, loud, and undeniably honest, whether you’re ready to hear it or not.

The band doesn’t take themselves too seriously (and thank God for that), but their sound is no joke. With guitar riffs that bite, basslines that slap, and a rhythm section that sounds like it’s running on caffeine and unresolved issues, The Sunmills aren’t here to be background noise, they’re here to blow up your speakers and maybe your last relationship while they’re at it.

So if you like your alt-rock with a side of sarcasm and a smirk that says, “I’m totally fine, why do you ask?” keep an eye on The Sunmills. Because “The Art of Burning Bridges” isn’t just an album, it’s an emotional wildfire. And you’re invited to watch it burn.
