Benchmarking Across Competency-Based Assessment Frameworks Is Transforming Educational Institutions

Benchmarking has had a major impact on transforming educational institutions. Especially when measuring its performance by using competency-based assessment frameworks.

An international competency-based assessment framework relies on students working their way through tests that measure their competency for a particular area of study. The benchmarks used to test competency are set by educational standards around the world and based on average results globally.

Here are three primary ways that demonstrate how benchmarking across competency-based assessment frameworks is transforming educational institutions.

It Has Allowed Schools To Personalise Learning Pathways For Students

International competency-based assessment frameworks focus on evaluating a student’s understanding and mastery of knowledge and skills relating to a specific subject. This goes beyond the student’s ability to pass standardised tests.

By understanding how each student has or hasn’t mastered a particular subject, educators can go beyond the one size fits all standard methods of teaching.

Once each student is assessed on their competency level, educators are able to tailor their instructions accordingly. This means that if a student is struggling with understanding difficult mathematical concepts, for example, specific lessons can be given to this student to better help him or her understand the concepts.

It Has Allowed Schools To Integrate Real-World Skills

These days, education has to go a step further than just teaching the basic skills of maths, science and English. Students need more relevant education and need to learn real-world skills that will set them up for success in the job market.

That’s why schools are using benchmarking to align their curriculum with these international competency-based assessment frameworks to ensure students are equipped with the skills that they’ll need once they leave school.

For example, many educational institutions are now incorporating project-based assessments into their curriculum. These allow students to solve complex problems using the knowledge that they’ve learned.

In addition, this approach makes learning so much more interesting, meaningful and engaging for students as a whole.

It Has Allowed Schools To Create More Innovative Teaching and Assessment Methods

By using competency-based assessment frameworks, educational institutions are working harder to create more innovative teaching and assessment methods.

For example, many schools are incorporating technology-enhanced learning and assessments because so much work in the real world is now technology-based. In addition, more innovative educational institutions are starting to use simulations to gauge the knowledge and skills of their students.

This shift in teaching methods has helped to promote creativity and experimentation among students and is achieving far better results when compared to the rote learning that was used in the past.

Ultimately, this has opened the door for collaboration among educators from different schools and even different countries, as they strive to develop more interesting programs for their students.

In Summary

Educational institutions have undergone a massive transformation in recent years thanks to the benchmarks set across competency-based assessment frameworks.

These frameworks have allowed educational institutions to personalise learning pathways for their students and equip these students with more real-world skills.

In addition, schools are now incorporating a whole range of new technology-based assessments and programs to ensure that students are geared up for entering the workforce with all the skills and knowledge that they need.
