Australian singer and songwriter Amber Claire just released a pretty awesome version of Steve Perry’s “Foolish Heart” and she’s here to tell us how it all came together.
What made you decide to record a cover of Steve Perry’s 1984 classic “Foolish Heart”?
I grew up with a very musical family in Australia, so I would always get to listen to, and appreciate different artists and styles of music I would hear around the house. Steve Perry’s voice and music was one of them. Even to this day, I never forget the music that inspired and influenced me. “Foolish Heart” has always been a song that I have wanted to record a cover of, so I’m so happy that I finally had the chance to.
Who did the production of the song and where was it recorded?
A young producer from Argentina by the name of Matias Fumagalli did a fantastic remake of the song, which he made from scratch. He listened to everything I asked for and didn’t try to make it all about him. He kept the style the same as the original but with a modern touch, to honor the amazing Steve Perry version—(which is in a league of its own!). I recorded the vocals at Room2 Studios in Glendale, California, which was a fantastic experience as well. Then I sent the vocals over to Matias to do the final mix, in Argentina.
What about the music video?
My friend Anthony Acero did a fantastic job of directing the video with me, which was filmed in a skyline loft in Downtown LA. The views were spectacular!
