Record Review:
As I sat down to critique “Kiss the Sky,” it took me on a voyage to the warehouse. I can vision Ron Hardy pitch-shifting this single to give it that transitional speed that became known as jack. The vocals start relatively slow; However, HD has never failed a track; he always finds a way to syncopate the bassline and beat.
House genius Marshall Jefferson produced the track. The single takes you on a rhythmic trip back to the 80s, giving you the impression that you are in the company of two house gurus—the sampled chants of HD identifies as part of the culture that catapulted house music in the early 80s. The arrangements are simple but effective enough to lead you to the dance floor. I would say on a scale of 1 to 10; I rate
this single as an 8.
