Alex, your journey from Serbia to Hollywood is fascinating. Can you share what initially drew you to pursue a career in acting, and how did the move to Hollywood come about?
Back in Serbia, where I grew up, movies and music were my thing from day one. I got into entertainment school early on, doing auditions, TV gigs, you name it.
So, one day, I thought, why not take this show to Hollywood? So I packed my bags and landed in the U.S., I didn’t know a soul in the city, but sometimes you gotta roll solo to chase those dreams. Sure, I had some family in the Midwest, but Hollywood was calling.
It’s not just about a change of scenery, it’s like diving into the heart of where dreams go big. So, from Serbia to Hollywood, that’s the story , a mix of childhood dreams and a bit of ‘why not?’ attitude.
Moving to Los Angeles is a significant step. What were the biggest cultural differences or surprises you encountered when transitioning from Europe to the entertainment hub of the world?
Moving from Belgrade to Los Angeles was interesting ,to say the least. Back home, things are easygoing, you know? Here, it’s like everyone’s on turbo mode, it took me a bit to catch up. And the people, oh boy! In Serbia, it’s kinda the same crew everywhere. LA? It’s a total mixture of folks from every corner. It’s like a global party, which is pretty awesome but definitely different. Suddenly, I’m meeting people from all corners of the globe, each with their own story and vibe. It’s pretty cool, though, this mix of perspectives.
Starting out in a new industry can be challenging. Can you recall your first audition in Hollywood? What was going through your mind, and how did you navigate those early experiences?
Absolutely! Before diving into proper auditions, I took the time to study and learned various acting techniques. Surprisingly, when it came to my first audition in Hollywood, I felt a sense of calm. Sure, there were nerves dancing around, but it was a good kind of excitement.
I approach auditions with the mindset of doing my absolute best. Once it’s done, I move on to the next one. Being present in the moment and staying as prepared as possible are my go to strategies. After all, the rest is in the hands of the casting folks and depends on what they’re looking for. I firmly believe that what’s meant for me will find its way.
It’s all about embracing the process, enjoying the journey, and trusting that the right opportunities will come knocking. Auditions are like puzzle pieces, and each one brings me a step closer to the bigger picture.
You’ve been part of projects like “Winning Time” and “Man With A Plan “. What has been the most memorable moment on set so far, and how did it contribute to your growth as an actor?
Being on sets like Winning Time and Man With A Plan was super cool! One of my favorite moments was just hanging out in this pro atmosphere with big names like Adrien Brody, Jason Segel and Matt LeBlanc. It was kind of like a dream, watching them do their thing.
This experience really helped me grow as an actor. It was about understanding how a professional set works. The cool vibes, everyone being friendly, and the way everyone was so professional, it was like a big lesson for me. I’d catch myself daydreaming about living that on set life for real.
Being around these experienced actors taught me a lot. You pick up little tricks, see how everything comes together behind the scenes, and it’s all part of the journey. These moments didn’t just boost my love for acting; they made me believe that the on set life is something I can totally make happen.
Looking ahead, what are your aspirations and goals as a young actor in Hollywood? Are there particular roles or genres you aspire to explore in your career?
Looking ahead, my aspirations as a young actor in Hollywood are pretty exciting. I’ve got this dream of making my own films and taking the lead in them, you know, wearing both the director and actor hats. As for genres, I’m really into coming of age young adult movies right now, but the plan is to dip my toes into all sorts of genres. Variety keeps things interesting.
Dream roles? Oh, there are a few! Hercules is definitely on the list. I’m all for those epic, mythological vibes. And, of course, superhero roles like Spiderman or Superman would be an absolute dream come true. Imagine swinging through the city or flying high lol, sign me up for that adventure! So yeah, the goal is to explore, experiment, and maybe one day, bring some iconic characters to life.
Beyond acting, you’ve been involved in producing and directing. How do these roles complement your acting career, and do you have any specific projects you’re excited to bring to life in these capacities?
Getting into producing and directing alongside acting was a natural progression for me. While acting was my main focus, I wanted to understand the entire behind the scenes process. The audience usually sees the final product and applauds the actors, but there’s a whole team working behind the scenes, each with a vital role in making the story come alive.
Producing and directing allowed me to grasp this backstage operation. It’s like learning the mechanics that make the on stage performance possible.
A tip for directors and writers: trying out acting classes gives a deeper understanding of characters and the actor’s process. It’s a mutual insight that enhances the creative collaboration.
Currently, I’m diving into a project close to my heart, a young adult college movie centered around a troubled senior student navigating his last year at school. The excitement is real! I’m not just in front of the camera,’ I’m also behind the scenes, producing and bringing this story to life.
