One person dead and nine others injured in a stampede during the GloRilla concert in New York

During a rap concert featuring GloRilla and Finesse2tymes in Rochester, New York, one person was killed and nine others injured due to false fears of a shooting, which caused a surge towards the exits resulting in people being trampled, according to Police Chief David M. Smith at a news briefing. Police found no evidence of gunshots or stabbings at the scene. As the concert ended, people exiting the Main Street Armory began to surge dangerously, leading to three women sustaining critical injuries. Sadly, a 33-year-old woman died at a hospital, while the other two women remained in critical condition on Monday. The remaining seven people were treated for non-life-threatening injuries at hospitals, Smith added.

Police are investigating several possible causes of a fatal surge that occurred during a live music event featuring GloRilla, which left one person dead and two more in critical condition, according to Police Chief David M. Smith. While there is no evidence of shots being fired, other contributing factors such as crowd size, pepper spray, or other causes are being considered. Mayor Malik Evans called the incident a “tragedy of epic proportions” and promised a thorough investigation. GloRilla, a Grammy-nominated artist, tweeted her prayers for those affected. Unfortunately, fatal crowd surges have been a recurring disaster at concerts and large events globally, including the 2021 Travis Scott concert, which resulted in ten deaths.
